Dance

The Dance program at Northmead Creative and Performing Arts High School provides students with the opportunity to learn about dance as an artform through the interrelated practices of performance, composition and appreciation. They use the dancing body, the elements of dance and relationships to express ideas creatively and analyse dance works.

Dance Auditions

For our Semester 2 Dance auditions, all students are required to submit their audition performances via video recordings. This means you will need to record your child performing the audition piece at home or at another suitable location. You will then need to upload your video into the online audition application form.

Advice for Dance Audition Video Submissions

  • Prepare a 2–3 minute solo performance in one of the following styles: Contemporary, Ballet, or Jazz.
  • Candidates should audition with their strongest style and may mention other styles in their Introduction Video
  • Ensure the filming space is suitable for movement and well-lit.
  • Audio should be clear and well balanced.
  • Wear appropriate attire suitable for the dance style performed (no elaborate costumes or themed attire required).
  • The candidate’s full body should be visible in the video frame.
  • Perform the audition video in one continuous take.
  • No jewellery; hair should be tied back off the face.
  • Review the video before submission to ensure suitability.
  • Name your file before attaching it to your application (e.g., John Smith Dance Audition 2025).

Introduction Video Questions

  1. Introduce yourself. Tell us about your experiences as an artist, soloist, or member of an ensemble (you may also mention other dance styles you currently study).
  2. What are your interests in the creative and performing arts for your chosen area?
  3. What would you consider to be the most challenging aspect of your chosen CAPA area?

General Criteria that candidates will be assessed on for Dance

  • Performance quality
  • Self discipline and commitment
  • Adaptability to various tasks

When do I find out about my child’s audition result?

A response will be provided within a two week time frame (excluding holidays). Please note that no further correspondence will be entered into after this decision. Unsuccessful candidates will be provided with feedback about the strengths and weaknesses of the audition.
