Project Based Learning
Our project based learning approach encourages students to investigate real-world challenges and create meaningful solutions. Through collaboration, critical thinking, and hands-on activities, students develop deep understanding and practical skills that prepare them for future success.
Trips and excursions
Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world.
Creative and performing arts
Our drama, music and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. They can join in concerts, art shows and drama activities.
Bunji Group
Bunji Group focuses on connecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with their culture, as well as helping the wider school community to learn more about First Nations culture and events. We have a dedicated Homeroom, to support students in learning about Culture, and allow older and younger students to yarn with each other. Bunji Group have been involved in making damper, Bangarra Dance Performances, Sorry Day, Reconciliation Week, NAIDOC Week and have performed cultural dance at local events. We have also been lucky enough to work with community organisations such as Dalmarri and Bush to Bowl to paint murals that are displayed around our school, learn about bush tucker, and engage in cultural workshops with respected members of Community.
There are also school wide opportunities to learn about and engage in Aboriginal culture. During NAIDOC and Reconciliation Week, students engaged in workshops about Dharug seasons, language, and people. Every year for Spirit Week, we also have a school smoking ceremony which acts as a cleansing, and a symbol of Reconciliaion.
SRC (Student Representative Council)
The Student Representative Council (SRC) plays an active and vital role in building school spirit, fostering student leadership, and creating a positive and supportive community at Northmead CAPA High School. Our SRC gives students a voice in school decision-making while also providing opportunities to plan and lead initiatives that benefit the whole school.
One of our key year-round commitments is Breakfast Club, held every Wednesday morning. Run entirely on generous community donations, Breakfast Club ensures that all students start their day with a healthy meal by providing hot toast and a variety of cereals free of charge.
Throughout the year, the SRC also organises and participates in a wide range of school and community events, including the International Women’s Day Breakfast, Mental Health Youth Forum, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, Anti-Bullying Week, Spirit Week, the Colour Run, and R U OK? Day. In addition, we run regular fundraisers and activities such as bake sales, lollipop and jelly bean guessing competitions, and the creation of school-wide posters to raise awareness for important causes.
Our SRC proudly supports larger community initiatives such as the World’s Greatest Shave, Bandanna Day, Diabetes Day and leads ongoing environmental programs, including Return and Earn and school recycling projects.
The efforts of our SRC members help strengthen connections across the school, raise awareness of important issues, and promote inclusivity, wellbeing, and sustainability in everyday school life.
