Principal's Message
Welcome to the official website of Northmead Creative and Performing Arts High School (NCAPAHS), where we blend a rich tradition in the arts with a strong commitment to academic excellence. Our school is dedicated to fostering the unique talents and aspirations of students in the Creative and Performing Arts, providing a nurturing environment where creativity thrives alongside rigorous scholarship.
Focus on Creative and Performing Arts
At NCAPAHS, we recognise the profound impact that the arts can have on personal and academic development. Our specialised programs in music, drama, dance, and visual arts are designed to encourage students to express themselves, explore their creativity, and develop their artistic skills. We offer a diverse curriculum that includes opportunities for students to participate in performances, exhibitions, and competitions, allowing them to showcase their talents and gain invaluable experience in their chosen fields.
Academic Excellence
In addition to our strong focus on the arts, NCAPAHS is proud of our academic achievements. We have consistently performed exceptionally well in the Higher School Certificate (HSC), with many students achieving Band 6s across various subjects. Our highest ATAR results in recent years, including a remarkable 99.5, reflect our commitment to academic rigour and excellence.
High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE)
We provide a comprehensive academic program that includes advanced courses and pathways for High Potential and Gifted students, ensuring they are challenged and engaged in their learning. Our designated classes for HPGE students offer specialised curriculum and enrichment opportunities that challenge and inspire them to reach their full potential, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. Through these programs, students can engage with advanced content and participate in unique projects that align with their interests and abilities, preparing them for future academic and career success.
Pathways
we offer a range of Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses designed to equip students with the practical skills and knowledge needed for future employment in various industries. Our VET programs cover key fields such as Hospitality, Financial Services, Entertainment, Construction, Fitness Services, Retail Services, Assisted Dance Teaching, Sports Coaching, and Information Digital Technology. These courses provide students with valuable hands-on experience and industry-relevant training, ensuring they are well-prepared for the workforce. By pursuing a VET pathway, students not only gain practical skills but also enhance their employability and career prospects, making informed choices about their future while exploring their passions in a supportive learning environment. This path can be particularly beneficial for students who thrive in practical settings and wish to enter the workforce equipped with both qualifications and real-world experience
Vibrant School Community
Our school is a vibrant and dynamic place of learning, where students are encouraged to embody our core values of Respect, Responsibility, Community, Commitment, and Tolerance. These values underpin every aspect of our school life, creating a positive environment where students feel safe, supported, and empowered to succeed. We believe that cultivating a strong sense of community fosters collaboration and mutual respect among students, staff, and families.
Extracurricular Activities
We offer an extensive range of extracurricular activities that cater to a variety of interests and talents. Our students can participate in:
- Wakakirri: A national storytelling competition that combines performing arts with social messages.
- Debating and Public Speaking: Programs that enhance students' communication skills and confidence in expressing their ideas.
- Drama, Dance, Circus and Music: Regular performances and showcases that allow students to present their work and collaborate with peers.
- Visual Arts and Photography: Opportunities to explore creativity through various mediums and exhibit their art in school and community events.
- Sports: A comprehensive sports program that promotes teamwork, physical fitness, and healthy competition, including vocational pathways in Fitness Certificate 3.
- Charity and Community Work: Initiatives that encourage students to give back, fostering a sense of social responsibility.
Project-Based Learning (PBL)
Our commitment to developing future-focused skills is evident in our innovative Project-Based Learning (PBL) framework. This educational approach allows students to engage in hands-on, real-world projects that address relevant issues such as sustainability, safety, and cultural identity. Through PBL, students learn to think critically, collaborate effectively, and communicate their ideas. They are empowered to take charge of their learning, making choices that reflect their interests and passions while developing practical solutions to complex problems.
Cultural Exchange and Global Perspectives
To broaden our students' cultural understanding, we offer an annual exchange program to Hokkaido, Japan. This enriching experience allows students to immerse themselves in a different culture, learn a new language, and develop global perspectives. Participating in this exchange fosters international friendships and enhances students’ appreciation for diversity, preparing them for a globalised world.
Students also have the exciting opportunity to participate in overseas trips that enhance their learning experiences in the Creative and Performing Arts. These trips include visits to renowned cultural sites, performances, and workshops, allowing students to immerse themselves in different artistic traditions and gain firsthand insights into global arts practices.
Commitment to Social Justice
Social justice is integral to our school's mission. Our multicultural committee, led by student prefects, actively promotes social justice and equity within our community. Initiatives include:
- Sponsoring Students: We support two students in Ethiopia and Afghanistan, providing them with educational opportunities that they might not otherwise have.
- Supporting Global Education: Our partnership with a school in Oriakhail, Afghanistan, highlights our commitment to education as a fundamental right for all.
- Community Initiatives: Participation in the 40-Hour Famine and Red Shield Appeals encourages students to engage with pressing social issues and contribute to meaningful change.
Community Engagement
We pride ourselves on our strong ties with the local community. Collaborating with parents, local businesses, and community organisations, we strive to ensure quality learning outcomes for all students. Our partnerships enhance educational opportunities, provide resources, and create a supportive network that extends beyond the classroom, enriching the overall experience for our students.
